Description
The former Market Hall, likely remodeled in the mid-18th century from a 17th-century building, is located on Thornbury High Street. The structure is rendered and features a hipped slate roof. A timber ventilation lantern at the north end displays the date 1664 HIC on its weather vane. The building stands two stories tall and is six windows wide, with segmental-headed 16-pane glazing bar sash windows, some of which are blank. There is a Venetian window at the south end. The ground floor, which was originally an open Doric colonnade, has been glazed, and a modern door is situated at the south end. Inside, there is a lock-up space under the stairs that has two doors; the inner door is made of thick planks with strap hinges and includes an open window with iron bars, while the outer door consists of studded planks with strap hinges. The former Market Hall, along with Nos 12 and 14, is now part of a single property, although the Hall remains a distinct building.
