Description

Toghill House Farmhouse is a farmhouse that was once part of the estate of Tracy Park. It is dated 1691 at the rear and 1861 at the front, with later alterations and additions. The building is constructed of limestone ashlar and rubble, topped with a slate roof featuring raised coped verges and prominent kneelers, gable stacks, and asbestos slates in the central valley. The farmhouse has an L-plan and a symmetrical front, standing two storeys high with five windows.

The central feature is a two-storey gabled porch adorned with finials. The windows are arranged in a 2:1:2 pattern, all being two-light casements with four panes each, featuring chamfered mullions and reveals, and cills. All windows are paired with hood moulds above, except for the central first-floor window in the gable of the porch, which also has a hood mould. The central opening of the porch has a chamfered, four-centred arch with carved leaves in the spandrels, a hood mould, and initials C.R.D. (for Charles Rex Davy) along with a pennant bearing the motto "AUSPICE CHRISTO" and a shield with a coat of arms above the window. Inside the porch, there are benches and a double door with decorative iron handles.

The left side of the building features a single light window on both the ground and first floors, each with a hood mould, as well as a small attic window. The rear wing, made of rubble, has a two-light casement on the ground floor with a chamfered mullion and a 20th-century window on the first floor. The right side has a window on the first floor and an attic window similar to those on the left. The rear includes a single-storey wing with a 20th-century window and porch, with the original L-plan infilled by a second single-storey addition. There is a first-floor window with an ogee head, wave-moulded surround, initials and date in the spandrels, and a hood mould, along with a rear 20th-century porch.

Inside, there is a former external window remaining at the rear with two lights and an ovolo mullion, as well as the former head of a door with a segmental arch featuring strap moulding, alongside other 19th-century features.
