Description
The Beard monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, approximately 25 metres southwest of the west porch of the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Tormarton. This early 19th-century tomb is made of sandstone and features a shaped top with a moulded edge and a moulded base. It has engaged quarter columns at the corners, with acanthus leaves at the convex base, and a garland of leaves and a shaft ring. The south side has paired inscription panels, with a central panel adorned with twined branches and leaves, while the north side also has paired panels and a central urn with twined branches and swag. The stonework shows signs of spalling. The monument commemorates Susanna Beard, who passed away in 1822, along with other family members.
