Description
The memorial to Julia, Countess of Ducie, who died in 1895, is located 25 yards east of the chancel of St. Leonard's Church. Designed by W.D. Caröe in a Jacobean style, it features a canopied seat flanked by quadrant walls. The walls are made of coursed rubble and have a moulded cornice, with ashlar end piers topped by ball finials, and a low ashlar seat. The walls are curved towards the center, where there is a recessed seat against a rubble wall that includes an inscribed plaque. Above this is an arched canopy with a decorated archivolt and pilaster strips, gabled with obelisk finials and carved Ducie arms.
