Description
Downend House is a late 18th or early 19th century building. It has a rendered exterior, a moulded stone coping to the parapet, and a double saddle pantile roof with end gables. The house is three storeys high and originally had three windows. Later sash windows, without glazing bars, are set in exposed wooden frames. The ground floor has three 3-light square bays with a tiled pentice forming a porch. A central panelled door is set beneath a slab hood on pilasters; the door and porch are modern, as is the glazing. A modern plaque on the side of the house commemorates its significance as the birthplace of Dr W G Grace, the famous Gloucestershire cricketer, on 18th July 1848. The interior has been gutted.
