Description

The Purnell Chest Tomb, located 11 yards northwest of the porch of St. Leonard's Church, is a Grade II listed structure. This chest tomb commemorates Ann Purnell, who died in 1713. It is made of limestone ashlar and features inscribed shield panels, enriched pilasters, and a frieze, along with a moulded plinth and cornice. The chest tombs are a notable collection of local and classical tomb designs and significantly enhance the church's setting.
