Description
The Witherly monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 23 metres west of the west porch of the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Tormarton. This 18th-century tomb is made of limestone and features a flat top with a moulded edge and a moulded base. It has quarter balusters and shaped cartouches on the east and west sides, each surrounded by intricate carvings. The north side displays a shaped cartouche with a scrolled carved surround and raised panels on each side, while the south side has a pair of raised circular panels with carvings in the spandrels. The monument commemorates Thomas Witherly, who died in 1768, along with other family members.
