Description
The Arnold monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 25 metres southwest of the west porch of the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Tormarton. It dates from the 18th century and is made of limestone, featuring square sandstone inscription panels on the north and south sides. The tomb has a flat top with a moulded edge and a moulded base, with lyre-shaped ends on the east and west sides. The concave sides of the lyres are adorned with festoons. The inscription panel on the north side includes draped swags on the sides, while the south panel is decorated with branches and leaves. It commemorates William Arnold, who died in 1777, along with other family members. This monument is part of a group of three Arnold monuments, with the others located about 2 and 3 metres to the north.
