Description
Outram Terrace comprises two pairs of houses built around the 1860s on Albert Road in Stoke, Plymouth. The buildings are constructed of stucco with stucco detailing, featuring slate roofs with coped ends and a moulded eaves cornice. There are two rendered axial stacks and an original stuccoed end stack on the right, the latter with a moulded entablature.
Each pair of houses employs a double-depth plan, with paired entrance halls at the centre. The design is symmetrical, with a four-window facade on each pair over a basement. Original horned sash windows are present throughout, except for No. 13 (designated 11A on maps), which has 20th-century replacements. Each pair features original panelled doors and plain fanlights.
Architectural details include rusticated round-arched openings to the ground floor, incorporating vermiculation and pilasters with console hoods over paired doorways, linked by a string. The first floor displays pilastered surrounds with pediments upon consoles, while the second floor has plain architraves and consoles beneath the eaves. The left-hand return facade includes a gable pediment on consoles, along with paired windows to the ground and first floors, mirroring the surrounds found on the front elevation.
The interior remains uninspected but is likely to hold features of interest. Outram Terrace represents a high-quality stucco terrace design characteristic of the period.
