Description
Haye Farmhouse is a 17th-century or possibly earlier building, located on the west side of Haye Road, Elburton, Plymouth. It is constructed of stone rubble, with a rendered front obscured by creeper. The roof has a steep pitch and is covered in slate, with three large rubble and brick rear stacks and a later slender brick stack over the front wall toward the right. The original plan likely comprised three rooms, a through-passage, and a service wing, possibly a dairy with a hay loft above, accessed by external stone steps to the end wall. The two-storey, long, low facade has a four-window range, featuring mostly wide window openings. The windows are mostly late 18th- or 19th-century 3-light casements with glazing bars, except for an early 19th-century 16-pane hornless sash window on the ground floor to the left, and a canted bay with similar sashes to its right. A central hip-roofed porch with a glazed and panelled door provides entrance. The interior is reported to have no visible features of particular interest; however, original floor and roof structures and other concealed features may remain. It's a good example of a farmhouse, situated in a group alongside a barn and lime kiln.
