Description
Hardwick Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century and later. It is constructed of local rubble with some granite dressings, topped by a dry slate hipped roof, while the rear wing has some corrugated asbestos. The building features two rendered axial stacks and an outbuilt gabled lateral stack at the rear. Originally, it likely had a three-room and through-passage plan, with a lower service wing at the rear left and a later altered lean-to in the rear angle. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a five-window range, with 20th-century windows set in wide segmental-arched openings that were likely altered in the 18th century or later. On the front left, there are two blocked 17th-century chamfered window openings, one of which has a central mullion. The doorway towards the right has a timber lintel above a panelled door. The interior has not been inspected but may contain some original features of interest. The building's significance is enhanced by the survival of some 17th-century features and its grouping with a notable dovecote nearby.
