Description
Nos. 95, 97, and 99 Ridgeway is a former large town house from the 18th century. The front features slate hanging, and it has a steep slate roof that projects over a bracketed eaves cornice. There are three hipped dormer windows with slate-hung cheeks and 20th-century two-light casements. The building has a single-depth plan with a narrow wing at a right angle to the rear right, which was extended at the back in the late 20th century. It stands two storeys plus an attic and has a five-window range. The original 12-pane sash windows with thick glazing bars are present on the first floor, while the ground floor features a 20th-century three-bay shopfront.
The interior has been altered in the 20th century on the ground floor, but the building was not inspected further. Despite the 20th-century alterations, it still contributes significantly to the streetscape, and its interest is enhanced by the survival of the rare 18th-century sashes.
