Street lamp. c1835. Cast-iron. A tall tapering base to rounded moulding, with a shaft of fasces, cross bar through a round wreath, and mid C20 lamp with finial. HISTORY: one of three matching lamps which may be the original ones at the Yard, for which Rennie preferred the use of gas. Forms part of the most complete Victualling Yard in the country, a unique example of Neo-Classical planning of a state manufacturing site. Group value with the Clarence Steps (qv).
