PLYMOUTH CREMYLL STREET, Stonehouse Reservoir and enclosing iron railings, Royal William Victualling Yard

GV II

Reservoir and iron railings. c1830, by Sir John Rennie Jnr. Limestone ashlar. Square plan. Enclosed by ashlar wall with a flagged stone base. Iron railings extend around the four sides. HISTORY: forms an important original functional component of the Yard, for which an independent water supply was essential. The Yard is a remarkable and complete example of an early C19 industrial complex, and a unique English example of Neo-Classical planning of a state manufacturing site.
