Description
The reservoir and enclosing iron railings at the Royal William Victualling Yard were built around 1830 by Sir John Rennie Jnr. The structure is made of limestone ashlar and has a square plan. It is surrounded by an ashlar wall with a flagged stone base, and iron railings extend around all four sides. This reservoir is an important original functional element of the Yard, which required an independent water supply. The Royal William Victualling Yard is a remarkable and complete example of an early 19th century industrial complex, showcasing a unique English instance of Neo-Classical planning for a state manufacturing site.
