Description
This street lamp, located approximately 30 meters southeast of the Mill and Bakery in the Royal William Victualling Yard, dates from around 1835. It is made of cast iron and features a tall, tapering base with a rounded moulding. The shaft is designed with fasces and includes a crossbar through a round wreath, topped with a mid-20th century lamp and finial. This lamp is one of three matching lamps that may be original, as Rennie preferred the use of gas for lighting. It is part of the Royal William Victualling Yard, which is noted as the most complete victualling yard in the country and a unique example of Neo-Classical planning for a state manufacturing site.
