Description

This is a shop and attached house, likely dating from the early to mid-19th century, situated on a corner plot. It is located on Southside Street, Barbican, Plymouth, with a further front at No.12 Quay Road. The building is constructed of incised stucco and render, with the roof concealed behind parapets, featuring a moulded cornice to the front section. The plan is deep.

The exterior presents a four-storey front to Southside Street, with a one-window range. To the right-hand return is a two-by-three-by-two window range. Rusticated quoins mark portions of the right-hand return and the rear, and moulded architraves frame the first-floor windows on this return. The windows are mostly 20th-century replacements, including 12-pane hornless sash windows to Southside Street, with tripartite sashes on the first and second floors of the street front. Above these, a paired sash window is present. Later 20th-century windows fill the original openings elsewhere. The ground floor features an old moulded cornice and fascia, characteristic of the corner shop, with a pair of glazed and panelled doors. An altered window is on the left of the doorway, while a window with glazing bars is visible on the right-hand return.

The right-hand return, which represents the original house front, has a three-window range with a central doorway leading to the original house. A later doorway has been added to the left, now serving as the entrance to No. 33, also featuring a six-panel door. A two-window range fronting onto No. 12 Quay Road has a late 20th-century shopfront.

The interior has not been inspected.
