Description

Cedar Lodge is a town house or merchant's house dating from the 17th or 18th century. It features a rendered exterior on what is likely rubble, and has a late 19th century dry slate roof that is positioned end-on to the street, with a wide flat valley between the two sections. The roof is adorned with crested clay ridge tiles and turned finials, as well as shaped and pierced barge boards. There are two rendered lateral stacks with moulded stucco cornices on the right-hand return. The building has a deep plan that faces end-on to the street, probably containing two or three rooms at the front flanking a central entrance passage.

The exterior is two storeys high, with an attic on the left-hand range, and has a three-to-one window arrangement. The 18th century windows are hornless sashes with thick glazing bars and much crown glass, including central paired sashes on the ground and first floors of the left-hand gable end. There is a mid-19th century hornless sash on the left-hand gable and a similar 12-pane sash at the centre of the right-hand gable end on the first floor. The pilastered doorway is located under the right-hand window of the left-hand gable end, featuring a deep moulded hood, panelled reveals with fielded panels, and a similar six-panel door. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to retain original or old features that could assist in providing a more precise dating for the building.
