Description

Happerton Farmhouse is a building of probable 16th-century origin, with a dated 1614 stone, and later 18th-century additions. It is constructed of limewashed rubble, with a double Roman tiled roof that is hipped at the east end, and brick stacks. The farmhouse has two storeys. The front features three 2- and 3-light casement windows from the 20th century. A door is positioned off-centre to the left, set within a double ogee moulded surround with a pointed head. To the left of the leftmost window is a fragment of a blocked doorway with a chamfered 4-centred head. A datestone is visible on the first floor. The interior follows a cross passage plan, with a hall and parlour to the right and a service room to the left. The hall contains a large fireplace with a cambered lintel that is hollow and ogee moulded, alongside a double ovolo moulded frame ceiling. The unheated parlour has a transverse, chamfered beam.
