Description
Urchinwood Manor is a manor house dated 1620, with a mid 17th century addition and 20th century restoration. It features colourwashed roughcast with stone openings, copings, and a double Roman tile roof on the main range, while the rear wings have pantiles. The building has a U-shaped plan formed by the original L-shaped house from 1620 and the later south-west rear addition. The principal east front is two storeys high with four bays, showcasing 3-light ovolo-moulded mullions with double ribbed faces and small leaded panes. The second window on the ground floor to the left is a 20th century insertion. A central gabled porch has a moulded Tudor-arched entrance and a similar inner doorway with a two-leaf plank door. There are four rendered stacks at the ends. The south facade features cross-mullion fenestration, and there is a later two-storey addition to the left of the rear courtyard.
Inside, the ground floor left-hand room has 17th century imported panelling and a plasterwork frieze with vine sprays and animal and figure panels, along with deeply chamfered beams. The right-hand room on the ground floor also has 17th century panelling and a Tudor-arched fireplace. An inglenook fireplace is present in the ground floor north-east room. The manor was built by the Young family.
