Description
Collins Bridge spans the River Yeo to the east of Congresbury and dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed from local stone that has been cut and squared. The bridge features a single arch of approximately 7 meters, made up of a single row of voussoirs on either side. There is no parapet, and it is unclear if one ever existed.
This bridge is located on a footpath that crosses the River Yeo and is one of three small bridges situated close together in the area, spanning the river to the east and southeast of the village. Collins Bridge appears on the 1885 Ordnance Survey map, indicating its historical significance.
Collins Bridge is designated for its substantial integrity as a late 18th or early 19th-century structure, its strong group value with other nearby bridges of similar age and style, and its unusual condition, featuring an unmetalled surface and an associated track that has not been upgraded.
