Description
The Birches is a detached house, now divided into three separate flats, dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of rendered rubble with slate roofs. The south front has three storeys and five windows. The windows are 12-pane sashes on the ground and first floors, with 6-pane sashes on the upper floor; all are 20th-century replacements, except for two ground floor windows on the left-hand side. Each window head has stepped voussoirs. A central porch features wooden lattice jambs, a segmental head, and a nine-panel door with three rectangular lights above. Rendered stacks are located at either end. Later outshuts have been added to the rear of the building. The interior has lost most original features due to conversion, although shutters remain in most windows.
