Description

The Village Cross, located in Congresbury, is a significant structure dating back to the 15th century, with a 19th-century finial on the shaft. Made of limestone, it has an octagonal shape and features four tiers of steps leading up to a square socket with broached shoulders. The shaft is also square and stands 3 metres tall, with broached shoulders as well. At the top, there is a 19th-century finial that includes a block base and a ball, making the entire structure 6 metres high. This cross is an important visual landmark at the head of Broad Street, directly opposite the Ship and Castle Inn. It is also recognized as a scheduled ancient monument, listed as Avon No. 111.
