Description
Holdland House, originally St Andrew's Infant School, was founded as an elementary school around 1850. It is a two-story, U-shaped school building constructed in the Gothic style. The exterior is of coursed rubble, incorporating ashlar and red brick dressings, with patterned tile roofs. The gable ends are set back on the left and right sides and topped with cappings and saddlestones. The left gable features five blocked lancet windows grouped above a main ground floor window of four lights, all framed by a patterned strainer arch. The right gable is distinguished by a triangular upper window with Kentish Gothic tracery. On the ground floor, a buttress with setoffs divides two windows of two lights each, accompanied by a small oculus, all with patterned strainer arches. A steep gablet is centrally positioned, incorporating a two-light window to the left and a turret with a single lancet rising through the roof. The ground floor also has a three-light window to the left and two doorways to the right, both with patterned arches. The interior has been converted to offices, with floors inserted into the flanking cross-wings, but the original roof structures remain exposed.
