Description
The Church of All Saints, built between 1898 and 1902 by architect G F Bodley, is a Grade II* listed building. The south aisle and Lady Chapel were added by F C Eden in 1925, and the south porch was designed by Robert Potter in 1955. The church features snecked carboniferous limestone dressings and a tiled roof. Its three gabled front facing the road includes slender lancet windows and a dividing buttress, along with two-light nave windows showcasing early Decorated and Perpendicular tracery.
Inside, the church has a wide five-bay nave supported by piers with eight attached shafts, flanked by north and south aisles. The interior boasts a boarded wagon roof, and notable features include a font and pulpit designed by Bodley, with the pulpit being intricately carved by Zwink of Oberammergau. The east window features stained glass by Kempe and Tower from 1917. The overall interior is plain yet striking, highlighted by a carved wooden screen below the chancel arch that extends across the South Chapel.
