Description

The Dearing Monuments, located 5 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St Mary in Bradford Peverell, are three table-tombs from the late 17th century made of stone. The nearest tomb to the chancel is partially sunk into the ground and features an ovolo-moulded cornice with a flat top. It has an inscription in capitals that reads: "Here lyeth the body of Luke Dearing the Elder" followed by illegible text. The central table-tomb has a broken top block and one end block that is damaged. The outer table-tomb has a cyma-moulded top block and bears the inscription: "Here lyeth the body of Luke Dearing the Elder who was buried the Seventh Day of August. Anno Dom. 1666."
