Description
Cowleaze is a detached house that was formerly three cottages, dating from the mid-18th century. It has undergone changes in the 19th century, particularly in its windows, and has seen restoration in the 20th century. The building features knapped flint walls with brick dressings and a rendered, colourwashed upper storey. It has a thatched roof with gable ends and brick stacks at each gable. The house is two storeys tall and has four windows on the upper floor, which are 2-light wooden casements with glazing bars and wooden cills. The upper floor windows are from the 19th century, while the ground floor windows have been renewed in the 20th century. The ground floor features four segmental brick arches over the windows, with one window blocked and another inserted immediately to the right of the front door. The front door, located to the right of centre, has four recessed panels and two top lights, dating from the 20th century. There is an attached cottage on the right side, now part of Cowleaze, which is 1½ storeys tall and has two windows, a mix of 20th-century casements with glazing bars. Inside, there is a mid-chamfered ceiling beam with stepped stops, but the interior has been much altered.
