Description
Chilfrome Cottage is a detached villa located in Chilfrome Village, dating from the early 19th century. It features rubble-stone walls with dressed stone quoins and window dressings, topped by hipped slate roofs with parallel ridges. The building has 20th-century brick stacks on the end walls of the front range and on the north end wall of the rear range.
The front (east) range is two storeys high and has three windows, which are straight-chamfered stone mullions with separate labels above. The stone cills support iron casements with cast-iron glazing bars, featuring lozenges at the intersections. A central porch made of rubble-stone includes a Ham stone cornice, a moulded doorway, and a depressed-arch head. Above the doorway is a separate label, and the front door has two moulded recessed panels with one glass light above, dating from the 19th century.
The garden front has four windows with 19th-century sashes, while the rear wall displays stone mullions with cast-iron casements. Additionally, there is a small conservatory attached to the south end wall.
