Description

South Vale is a villa dating from the mid-19th century. It is constructed of rock-faced stone in narrow courses, with ashlar dressings, a Welsh slate roof, and stone chimney stacks. The design is Classical in style. The villa is two storeys high and has three bays. Features include a low plinth and raised-and-chamfered quoins. The central entrance features a pair of partly-glazed doors with an overlight, set within a wide stone doorcase with pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice. The ground-floor windows are 4-pane sashes with intermediate glazing bars removed, set within raised surrounds with projecting sills and topped with a frieze and cornice. The roof is low-pitched and hipped, with deep, overhanging boxed eaves. Wide axial stacks have top bands. The left return has similar fenestration in two bays. A round-arched stair window is located on the rear first floor, within a raised surround with impost blocks and a keystone. A greenhouse on the right return and single-storey additions to the rear are not considered to be of special interest.
