Description

The building is a waiting room and former ticket office, now a Tourist Information Centre, located west of the Station House at Haltwhistle Station Road. It was constructed in 1838, likely by Benjamin Green for the Newcastle and Carlisle Railway Company. The structure is made of dressed stone with a Welsh slate roof and an ashlar chimney stack. It has an L-shaped plan, consisting of a main block and a rear wing on the right.

Designed in the Tudor style, the building is single storey with a four-bay front featuring a low plinth and quoins. The left side has an enlarged 20th-century doorway, while the right side has a six-panel door set in a chamfered surround beneath a hoodmould. There is a 19th-century circular clock face on the wall next to the right doorway. Between the doorways, there are two 2-light chamfered-mullioned windows with replaced sashes, also under hoodmoulds. The roof features coped gables with square blocks at the apexes and shaped kneelers, along with a central octagonal-plan ridge stack topped with a moulded band. The two-bay rear wing has similar windows and architectural details. This building is included for its group value.
