Description
The railway signal box on the south platform at Haltwhistle Station was built in the late 19th century for the North Eastern Railway Company. It features a ground floor made of engineering brick in English bond and a first floor that is weather-boarded, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The structure is two storeys high and includes a four-panel door on the left side of the ground floor. The first floor has a deep cyma-reversa weather-boarded coving on the overhanging front and rear, with four glazed bays above raised-and-fielded panels, each bay containing three cross windows. A cast-iron walkway with railings surrounds all four sides. The roof is low-pitched and hipped, with overhanging eaves and two glazed bays on each return. A wooden ladder stair on the left leads to a boarded door on the first floor. This building is included for its group value.
