Description

Home Farm House is an attached house with origins dating back to the late 16th century, which has been altered in the 18th and 19th centuries. The walls are originally made of ironstone rubble, with parts refaced in brick during the 18th century and raised in brick in the 19th century. The house features a slate roof and has brick end and central stacks, with the central stack having recessed panels. It is two storeys high and follows a three-room and cross-passage plan, possibly originally serving as a long-house.

The entrance has a panelled door set within an early 18th-century moulded brick surround that includes an entablature. On the ground floor, there are three ovolo-mullioned timber windows with casements, one of which is a 20th-century copy. The first floor has four casement windows with glazing bars. There is a lower brick extension at the east end, topped with a slate roof, and a two-storeyed rear wing of brick from the 18th century, also with a slate roof.

Inside, the parlour at the west end features an original open fireplace with moulded stone jambs and a timber lintel. There are significant remains of wall paintings from around 1600, depicting biblical texts in panels with strapwork borders. The hall contains a simpler open fireplace. Additionally, there is a cast iron pump located at the rear of the house. The property is graded II* primarily for its wall paintings.
