Description
No 79 on Giles Lane is a detached house that was formerly three cottages but is likely to have originally been one house. It dates back to the 17th century, with alterations and a raised roof made in the 18th century. The building features brick walls and a slate roof, with brick stacks at both ends and in the center. It has two storeys, with two ledged doors, one of which is set in a timber porch topped with a corrugated iron roof. The ground floor includes four casement windows with glazing bars, while the first floor has two similar windows. The north-east section, which was formerly No 78 and is now used only for storage, contains a large open fireplace and a deeply chamfered ceiling beam. This section also boasts a well-preserved early 18th-century staircase with turned balusters. The occupied section features a large open fireplace, which has been partially built up.
