Description
Kandala and Squirrel Cottage are two attached cottages, likely dating from the 17th century, with alterations made later. They are constructed of rubble-stone walls, and have thatched roofs with gable ends and stone gable-copings. Brick stacks are visible on the gable ends, with a further brick stack added on the front wall in the 20th century. The cottages have one-and-a-half storeys and feature four windows, each with two-light wood casements containing glazing bars. The ground floor windows have cambered brick arches. The front door of Kandala Cottage is a 20th-century plank door located centrally, while the front door of Squirrel Cottage is a 20th-century panel door with a hipped thatched roof covering.
The interior features chamfered ceiling beams and large fireplaces. One fireplace includes a stop-chamfered bressumer and a smoking chamber with an oven. The roof structure consists of collar trusses with large purlins supported on the backs of the principals and a diagonal ridge piece.
