Description
Pier Terrace comprises ten houses built between 1884 and 1885, designed by E.S. Prior. Eight of the houses are three storeys plus an attic, while the remaining two are four storeys. The ground floors are constructed of rusticated stone, with the upper two floors incorporating pebbledashing and fish-scale slate cladding. The roofs are mansard style, covered with patent pantiles and featuring eaves soffits and small, splayed dormers at the pitch change. There are decorative sprockets and deep soffits at the main eaves and at the base of the slate-hanging. The west-facing elevation is similar, but includes canted oriels, with some areas on the first floor slate-hung. The south end of the terrace is shingled and features a second-floor balcony that juts out from the wall. The north end has modern, two-storey extensions. The houses have mullion and transom windows with glazing bars. The porches are distinguished by semi-circular arches with low springing. The buildings, along with The Fountain (No 11), Norman Goods Warehouse (No 13), Clarence House (No 13), the Methodist Church, the Bridport Arms Hotel, Ship Cottage, Gull House, The Dinghy, and Pier Terrace, form a group.
