Description

The Harbour in West Bay is a Grade II listed structure that has been rebuilt at various times, most recently in 1824 by Francis Giles. It features two parallel moles constructed from large ashlar blocks, which are partly reinforced with iron and concrete. The edges are capped with a concrete blocking course. The remaining harbour walls consist of substantial timber piles, some fitted with iron driving rings at the top, all secured to a timber land-tie. There are wooden landing ladders placed at intervals around the harbour. At the eastern end, there is a slipway with an iron drawbridge for pedestrians. A modern bridge crosses the weir on the north side, and some original stone drains are present, with sections of the original stone paving visible beneath the tarmac in certain areas.
