Description
The Methodist Church, built in 1849 by Messrs Cox and Son, Shipbuilders, is located east of West Bay Road and the harbour. John Cox, who had been the leader of the Society since the West Bay Wesleyan Society was established in 1828, oversaw its construction. The church features hammer-dressed stone with rendered sides and a pitched slate roof, complete with coped gable ends. It is a single-storey building with two round-headed windows on each side, adorned with Gothick glazing bars. The porch showcases a panel and pilaster treatment, a full entablature with projecting eaves on shaped consoles, a two-panelled door, and a tent roof topped with a finial. The church is part of a group that includes No. 11, The Fountain, Messrs Norman Goods Warehouse, No. 13 (Clarence House), the Bridport Arms Hotel, Ship Cottage, The Dinghy, and Pier Terrace.
