The roof of No. 40 is made of galvanized iron, while No. 42 has an asbestos slate roof. There is a 20th-century brick chimney stack on the right gable of No. 42. No. 40 is two storeys tall, while No. 42 has three storeys.

In terms of windows, No. 40 features two 2-light wooden casements from the 20th century, with gauged brickwork that has been painted over and a blocked window in the center of the upper level. No. 42 has a single window width; its ground floor includes a square bay with a sash window, and the first floor has canted bays with 2, 3, and 2 sashes from the 20th century. The top floor has a sash window with thin glazing bars, dating from the 19th century.

For doors, No. 40 has a centrally located front door that is from the 20th century, while No. 42 has a left-of-centre door with flush panels and glazing, also from the 20th century. Both cottages feature a moulded architrave and cornice in wood.
