Description

Maltsters is an attached farmhouse located on Long Street in Cerne Abbas. It dates from the 17th century, with a 19th-century extension at the east end and some changes to the windows. The building features rubble-stone and chalk block walls that are roughcast and painted white. It has a thatch roof that is half-hipped on the left side and gabled on the right side. There are brick stacks, one composite at the ridge to the left of center and another at the right gable. The farmhouse has two storeys and four windows, which are three-light wooden and iron casements with lead lights. Currently, there is no doorway on the street; the entrance is located in a brick outshut at the rear, covered by a clay tile roof, featuring a plank door with wood framing and a lintel above, dating from the 20th century. Inside, there are two jointed-cruck trusses, and possibly more, indicating potential historical significance, although the interior has not been inspected.
