Description

This is an early to mid-19th century former market house, now a restaurant, likely built on the site of a medieval guildhall. The building is constructed of stone walls, now stuccoed and painted, with slate roofs and a rendered brick stack on the rear (east) gable. The west elevation has a ground floor shop front with two large windows divided by glazing bars (28 panes to each). Plain pilasters support a moulded capital and base, and a plain entablature with a dentil cornice is above. A central two-leaf door with marginal glazing is also from the 19th century. The first floor has two sash windows with thin glazing bars, and the second floor has blocked windows. The north side features four windows, sash windows with glazing bars. The ground floor to the right has a large fixed window with glazing bars (24 panes), pilasters, and a moulded cornice. A 20th-century door is located centrally. The top floor is above a moulded white cornice and has blocked openings.
