Description

The Old Farmhouse is a mid-18th century house, attached at its west end. It is constructed of rubble stone and flint on a plinth, with brick walls in a Flemish bond pattern, incorporating dosers. A brick plat band runs along the front, and the rear wall is rendered. The roof is covered in stone slabs and clay tiles, with stone gable copings. Brick stacks are located at both left and right hand gables.

The house has two storeys and five windows, all sashes with glazing bars, set within gauged and ribbed brick voussoirs. The central front door is fielded panel, framed by recessed pilasters with a fluted frieze and dentil cornice. An original service range extends at a right angle from the rear.

Inside, brick jambed fireplaces are found in the west room and rear range, with brick benches in the former. Cambered wood lintels and 18th century ceiling beams (in the rear) are present. The east room features full fielded panelling and an alcove containing a reset door, both dating to the 18th century. A fireplace in a corner of this room was removed in the 20th century, and the room was extended southward and windowed, originally a passage. The staircase retains its original handrail, with a mixture of original and replaced balusters. Flagstone floors are also original features.
