Description

This is a symmetrical terrace of eight estate cottages, built in 1864. The cottages have rough ashlar walls and slate roofs, with six chimney stacks evenly spaced along the ridge, featuring ashlar bases and plastered above. They are one storey high with attics. Number 16, at the left end, has a 20th-century glazed door in an ashlar surround, sheltered by a hoodmould. The ground floor has a single three-light stone mullioned window with arched lights, also under a hoodmould, with cast iron glazing. A gabled dormer with bargeboards and a similar two-light window is in the attic. Number 18 is very similar, with a part-glazed door, and additionally has a single-light window under the eaves. Numbers 20 and 22 are also similar, paired with adjoining doors; the door to Number 20 is ledged, while the door to Number 22 is part glazed. A date panel is located in the centre of the terrace. Numbers 24 and 26 are paired and both have ledged doors. Number 28 has a 20th-century part-glazed door and window arrangement similar to Number 18. Number 30, at the right end, has a glazed door and a window arrangement matching Number 16. The terrace represents a good, unspoiled example of its type.
