Description
This building is a barn and engine house located 15 metres south-west of Wytherston House, dating from the 16th century or later. It features coursed rubble stone walls and a concrete tile roof with stone gable-coping at the left end. A large projecting porch is situated on the north side, approximately at the centre, with weatherboarding in the gable. There is one stone sleeper buttress on the left side and two long loops on the north wall with chamfered edges. The east gable wall has stone steps leading up to a plank door, which was formerly a granary, and a plank stable door is located on the right side at ground level.
At the rear of the barn is an attached engine house, dating from the late 18th or 19th century. This structure is circular with a conical thatched roof and features lead-light casements. There is no machinery inside the engine house. Inside the barn, there are raised jointed crucks spanning eight bays, two sets of through-purlins with replacements, and remains of wind-bracing.
