Description
The Castle House, formerly known as the Castle Hotel, is located on Long Street and dates back to 1625. This two-storey building features three window bays and has a plaintile gabled roof with a coursed rubble front. On the first floor, there are three-light sash windows at both ends and a single sash window in the center. The ground floor has, from left to right, a three-light sash window, two sash windows, and a carriage entrance at the right end. A stone tablet between the second and third windows on the first floor reads "The Castle Inn 1800." Part of the rear wing is of a similar age. The Castle House is part of a group that includes Rose Cottage, The Bank House, the premises occupied by The National Westminster Bank, Old Bank House, and Abbot's Litten, along with a timber-framed structure behind No 87 Cheap Street.
