Description

This is a late 19th-century front applied to a building with earlier construction within, situated on Long Street. In 1881, it was opened as the Sherborne Coffee Tavern Company Limited, and may have once been associated with the Tudor Rose. The building has a tall front of two storeys and three window bays, topped with a tile gabled roof. The front is rendered. The windows are sash windows, lacking glazing bars.

The original tavern front is on the ground floor, featuring two windows flanked by narrow circular columns, supporting a flat canopy with gablets. A round-headed entrance, featuring a keystone, is located before a passage on the right-hand end, and is topped with a plain fanlight. The entrance door consists of three tall round-headed panels. Other doors include one of six panels with the upper four glazed, and one ledged door with ornamental iron hinges. An early 19th-century doorway is framed by a fluted architrave and angle blocks. The building forms a group with several adjacent properties, including premises formerly occupied by Henry Durrant Antiques, Bernard of Mayfair, The China Gallery, Child's Garage, St John's, and a building adjoining St John's to the east.
