Description

Godmanstone Manor is a manor house dating from the early to mid-19th century, with some internal alterations made in the 1930s. The building features stone walls that are stuccoed and painted blue, with pilaster bay divisions and capitals, and projecting panels on the front pilasters. The ground floor has sunk coursing, and the roof is hipped and covered with slate. There are rendered brick stacks located to the left and right of the center, halfway back, and at the right-hand gable. This double-pile cube house has an intact service range to the north.

The front elevation is two storeys high and has three upper-floor windows, which are sashes with thin glazing bars arranged in a 16-pane configuration. The ground floor features 19th-century French windows. The front door is centrally located and consists of two fielded panels with a large upper light above, which has marginal glazing bars. The original service range, attached to the north, is built with the same materials and is also two storeys high, featuring two windows and a rendered stack behind the apex at the right end wall.

Inside, the layout includes a transverse front hall and an inner staircase hall located at the northwest corner, which contains a re-fashioned staircase. The doors throughout the house have reeded architraves and roundel imposts, and there are six recess-panel doors. The compact service block retains its original plan, which is recoverable.
