Description
The Old Rectory is a house dated 1699, featuring squared, coursed rubble walls with ashlar quoins and a slate roof. It was originally designed with a symmetrical double-pile plan that includes two parallel roof ranges. The building stands two storeys tall with an attic and has a five-bay main range. The windows are 19th-century sash windows without glazing bars, and there is a central door with a 19th-century porch. A heavy cornice with modillions adorns the top, and there are stone end stacks. A plat band runs between the ground and first floor, and there is a two-bay service wing along with later additions to the left. Inside, the staircase is noted as an important feature. The garden wall includes an arch over the front gate, which supports a flat hood with dentils on scrolled brackets, possibly originally intended for over the front door.
