Description
These are a pair of gate piers located approximately 10 meters west of the entrance to the stable yard of Upwey House, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. Constructed from Portland ashlar, the piers stand about 2 meters high and measure 0.45 meters square. They are isolated, without any attached walls or gates, marking the entrance to the drive leading to Upwey House, situated beyond its stable block. Each pier features projecting responds for former gates and has a small scroll-stop head. The front and rear faces of the piers are adorned with two fielded panels, and they are capped with a moulded cornice that originally had a ball finial; however, the capping on the right-hand pier is damaged.
