Description

Sunnyside is a detached cottage with a likely 16th-century origin, significantly altered in the early 19th century and again in the 20th century. It is constructed of rubblestone and cob walls, with some brick patching, rendered and painted. The roof is thatched, with a hipped shape on the left and a gable on the right, featuring block ridging. There are chimneys on the ridge at the left and at the right gable end. Originally a one-and-a-half storey building, it was altered to a single storey with a loft above, formerly containing dormers, though these have now been removed. The cottage has four windows, each with two-light wooden casements incorporating glazing-bars, wooden sills and lintels, dating to the 19th and 20th centuries. A 20th-century ornamental wooden porch with a gabled roof is present. The interior has been extensively altered in the 20th century, including changes to ceiling heights and modernized fireplaces, though earlier fire breasts remain behind. The roof’s construction incorporates elements and repairs from multiple periods, mostly from the 19th and 20th centuries, and is currently in poor condition.
