Description
No. 5 Main Street is an attached farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with some external and internal alterations made in the early 19th century. The front is adorned with mathematical tiles and some brickwork, topped by a slate roof with gable ends. There are rendered stacks at the left gable, a ridge stack positioned to the right of center, and a brick stack at the right gable. The building has two storeys, featuring three windows on the ground floor, which are three-light wood casements with glazing bars, wood cills, and brick arches. The first floor has four windows, consisting of two-light wood casements with glazing bars and cambered brick arches. The front door, located to the right of center, is a six flush-panelled door within a wood frame from the 19th century. It is sheltered by a brick porch with a gabled slate roof and a square-headed entrance, dating from the late 19th century.
Inside, the layout includes a through passage and three rooms, each equipped with a fireplace, with the middle room backing onto a cross passage. In the early to mid-19th century, the current staircase was added along the back wall, accessible from a longitudinal passage that is partitioned off in the middle room to the north of the stack.
