Description
Holt Lodge Farmhouse is an early 17th-century farmhouse that underwent substantial rebuilding in the late 18th century. The house has timber frame walls, some of which are encased or rebuilt in brick. It has a tiled roof with brick stacks at the ends, brick gable copings, and kneelers. The building is symmetrical with two storeys and five bays. A brick plat band runs along the first-floor level. The windows have segmental brick heads. The outer bays have 3-light casements with glazing bars, while the inner bays have similar 2-light casements. A central, glazed double door provides access.
Internal features documented by the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments include deep, chamfered intersecting beams encased in plaster, 17th-century oak panelling, and the original roof with cambered tie-beam trusses and chamfered purlins with run-out stops. Within the roof space, a partition has a doorway with a four-centred head and a plank door with strap hinges featuring ornamental finials. An exposed timber post displays chamfered arrises and a shouldered head.
